Philippine's new President Rody Duterte inauguration was one for the books. His family wasn't really an ideal or a complete family. Duterte's current live-in partner, Honeylet AvanceƱa and ex-wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, were both present at the inauguration with Honeylet's daughter Kitty and Elizabeth's kids, namely, Sara, Baste and Paolo. It was an event that people all over the world watched in excitement. The menu for the guests also had created quite a stir, breaking decades-long tradition where fancy food is served. Here, they have the following:
- Monggo soup, smoked fish with alugbati in demitasse cups
- Pandesal with kesong puti and Vigan longganisa grilled on the spot
- Lumpia ubod pouch
- Durian tartlet
- Fried saba using Carbava banana
An insider at the inauguration said Duterte almost didn't have the time to eat because the guests, which consisted of different ambassadors from friendly countries always grabbed the time to talk to him or have their pictures taken with him. But the insider told us that Presidente Duterte's favorite was the Monggo soup and his city's pride, the Durian Tartlet. He ate 5 of them, the insider noted.
Via Mare, one of the country's premier catering company, was once again selected to prepare and serve the menu to the 600+ guests. Via Mare had catered before for the papal visit of St. John Paul II, the Miss Universe pageant in 1995, and ASEAN Summit in Cebu in 2007.
